A Preview and a Playlist, Just for You
Hey there!
Welcome to Christina Shouts Into the Void. I am thrilled that the time of newsletters has returned, and I am even more thrilled to be hopping on the bandwagon. I chose Substack so that I could offer a free subscription, along with some paid options. You can read about those options down below!
I’m massively thankful for your support at any level. Writing my first book of poetry during the pandemic has simultaneously been a very rewarding and a very isolating process. Shouting into your inbox instead of a Google Doc feels good.
What to expect:
Free tier
You can subscribe to my primary monthly newsletter for FREE! Every month, I’ll email you a personal essay or a pop culture critique, along with some updates about new publications and projects!
$5 tier
For $5 a month (or a discounted rate of $50/year), you’ll receive the primary newsletter AND an additional monthly email with an unpublished draft of a poem, some commentary about the poem, and a relevant prompt to inspire your own poem!
$10 tier
For $10 a month (or sliding scale starting at $70/year), you’ll receive both monthly emails AND an acknowledgement in my forthcoming poetry collection.
Anyways, what have I been up to?
Publishing
The small press I run with a couple of my awesome friends (Megan Mimiaga and Stephanie Anderson) is celebrating the launch of our first book, A Teenager’s Guide to Feminism! The book debuted as #1 in its category on Amazon, and we just held our first virtual launch party and author reading last weekend. Follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and (if you haven’t escaped yet) Facebook @PearShapedPress for updates. We’re already seeking submissions for our next book project!
The Bi Pod: A Queer Podcast
Speaking of awesome friends, the incomparable Chelsee Bergen and I are so excited to launch The Bi Pod, a podcast about all things bisexual. Our first season will premiere very soon, with new episodes dropping bi-weekly (see what we did there? VERY original). You can follow us on Instagram, and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
A Treat: Quarantined Bitch Playlist
Creating hyper specific Spotify playlists is my #1 coping mechanism, so at the beginning of the pandemic I added “quarantined bitch/love in the time of” to my world-renowned Bitch Playlist Series. Since March 2020, I’ve been adding songs that reflect the various moods and seasons of this very strange time. Pro tip: Listen to this playlist on shuffle. We’re not living in linear times.
Coming up
I’ll be back in your inbox at the end of February with an essay on Promising Young Woman, a film I have many complicated feelings about. If you have a paid subscription, you’ll get a poem in your inbox on Valentine’s Day (that, I assure you, will not be Valentine’s Day themed).
Much Love,
Christina Brown
