If you participated in National Poetry Writing Month in any capacity, congratulations on making it to May! This year, 30/30 really challenged me. Some days I felt like my brain was a lemon I was trying to squeeze too much juice from, but I got through it and, if you’re reading this, so did you!

This year, one of my favorite things about May happened in April. The jacarandas in Los Angeles are blooming! My whole street is covered with little purple flowers, and when I look at the window it looks like we live in Candyland. Last week, a visitor from Canada asked me if the trees in LA are always purple.

One of the prompts in my 30/30 challenge asked you to write a poem about your favorite tree. I love a lot of trees, but jacarandas have a special place in my heart. So, here is a poem I wrote about them.
